Sophie Pontoppidan - digital marketing apprentice at Alexander Daniels Global

“The course has already given me the confidence to do things that I never thought I would be able to do: from starting market research to onboarding packs for new clients, and now also doing data analysis of our online engagement. All in just four months, it’s no time at all”
How did you come to join the Academy?
I completed a graphic design degree and whilst I enjoyed the course, I had fallen out of love with it by the end. I still wanted to find a job where I could apply my strengths from graphic design and so I started to look at digital marketing roles.
However, I knew employers weren’t going to hire somebody with no experience. So I needed to get the skills to be employable, but I also needed an income to be able to live. An internship often means you won’t get paid, but doing an apprenticeship meant I would. That’s why I started researching apprenticeships and came across Working Knowledge.
“I've definitely found the career pathway that I want to stay on. I feel like I was made for digital marketing after being on the course for just four months”
Why Working Knowledge Digital Marketing Academy?
The fact that you get a one-to-one coach who supports you throughout the course is fantastic. You follow the course with the other apprentices in your cohort which is great, but you then also have one-to-one’s with your coach so you can really get in-depth on certain topics.
When did you know that you’d made the right choice?
I was really nervous before starting my apprenticeship as I wasn’t sure if I was doing the right thing. Now being in the Academy, I have had a lot of moments where I’ve felt that this is really where I’m supposed to be. I’ve been able to understand where my strengths are, what I need to learn to improve and how I can implement the improvements to get to that higher level in my work.
The course has already given me the confidence to do things that I never thought I would be able to do: from starting market research to onboarding packs for new clients, and now also doing data analysis of our online engagement. All in just four months, it’s no time at all.

How did you find the recruitment process?
The recruitment process was fantastic. It started with me researching different apprenticeships and so at the same time I was in the recruitment process with Working Knowledge, I was also with another recruitment company. But the difference in the quality of recruitment was massive.
With Working Knowledge, I felt like a person at every single stage of the recruitment process, I didn’t feel like a number. There was time taken to understand my strengths and what I wanted from the course. The potential that I had was really recognised, which was important to me not coming from a marketing background.
Where can you see your career going post apprenticeship?
I’ve definitely found the career pathway that I want to stay on. I feel like I was made for digital marketing after being on the course.
I’ve been matched excellently to the company culture and to the character of my manager, so much so that when we really get to discussing the marketing of the business after masterclasses, we always come away inspired and well-aligned on the direction we want to take the business in, through digital marketing; and that seems to replicate itself month after month as the course broadens my knowledge.
The business is allowing me to improve and to grow as a professional within digital marketing and so I’d love to stay here for as long as I can.
